Leather Dyes

Leather dyes can provide a wide variation in colour depth and quality. Some dyes will penetrate the skin, providing a uniform colour. Other leather dyes will resist in some areas and provide uneven colour or only deposit the colour on the surface of the material.

Over time and with normal wearing, many leather dyes will fade. Some dyes are solvent soluble and will be removed during cleaning. Whether the leather has been treated with a protective coating or not, re-dying may be needed after cleaning or to cover stains. While it is possible to re-dye, colours such as blues, greens, aquas and salmon pinks are nearly impossible to restore to their original brightness.
